It is important to know what your limits are when you want to negotiate for a better price on used cars. Have about three price options before you approach the dealer. These options should include the price you would really like to pay, a fair deal and the highest amount that you are ready to part with for the purchase.

Some of the sellers who deal with used cars can be difficult but you need to remain calm and courteous during the negotiation. It is also good to reassure the seller that you can pay the amount that you are suggesting right away in cash or cheque. Do not feel guilty about negotiating for a lower price because it could actually save you a lot of money.

Make an offer and let the seller know that you are ready to leave with the car as soon as the offer is accepted. When making your offer, make sure you appear confident and calm. State a specific amount that you are willing to pay. Once you have stated your offer, wait for a response from the seller. The seller will try to get a higher price but you have to maintain the initial offer and demonstrate that you are willing to pay a deposit immediately.

Some goverments and car dealerships are pushing for the Toyota prius and the Honda insight and other hybird cars to be given special treatment such as, special parking spaces, use of bus and transit lanes, cheaper parking when in metered zones and the list goes on.

Sporting cars / performance cars and general motoring enthusiasts are claiming this is an unfair decision and should not be passed upon any longer, it’s hard to see this ruling being imposed firstly as it is almost impossible to control who uses what lanes and what cars are considered green friendly, some sport cars have modded engines and accessories to still fall under what is considered a green friendly “Hybrid Vehicles” in these tough economic times car owners are installing such devices as plug-in electronics to diesel conversions and even such technology as petrol to power enhancers and many more modifications to their cars in order to get more millage out of their cars, Some owners have several green friendly mods in their cars that the fall under the “Green Friendly” / “Hybrid Powered” standards and this is what has caused so much commotion.

Current world standards are set at 10 litres per 100 km’s and many standard cars even without modifications still pass these Hybrid standard so you can see why some motorists are upset. The president of the United States Barack Obama is in talks with several countries to set a new benchmark so that car companies can label their green friendly cars “Hybrid” by setting higher standards in one of the most active markets will help other products not just cars to push for more green friendly products.

Predictions of Hybrid standards are that all cars must get 100km’s from less than 7 liters of fuel and release less emissions than 130g/km of co2, which is fair enough in this day and age to help promote less emissions and better classifications of world standards. There are several cheap hybrid cars on the market today that are close to the upcoming standards and it won’t take much effort to reach these standards by 2015.
